UH Mānoa Sustainability Council

"Universities are places, and places matter!"
-- from Defining our Destiny: The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa Strategic Plan 2002-2010

In October 2005, Interim Chancellor Denise Eby Konan formed a Council on Sustainability to advise on ways the Manoa Campus can function more sustainably.  The Council's founding report includes this guiding definition: "For a community to be truly sustainable, it must adopt a three-pronged approach that considers economic, environmental and cultural resources.  Communities must consider these needs in the short term as well as the long term."

It is envisioned that the Council's efforts will raise the visibility of the many sustainability initiatives that presently exist at UHM, and in so doing, develop synergies where possible.

Currently, the Council is composed of eight working groups, with the active members of these groups constituting the membership of the Council.
